How the group chat name generator works
Every name in this generator was written by hand and tagged twice: once for the kind of group it suits (friends, family, coworkers, classmates, a group of three or a sports team) and once for its vibe (funny, cute, chaotic or wholesome).
When you pick a group and a vibe, the generator shows the names that carry both tags, at least a dozen for every pairing, in a new order each time. Once you have seen them all, it fills the grid with names for the same group in another vibe, and each card's tags show which is which. Leave either menu on Any to mix everything.
All the names are clean enough for a family chat or a class group, so you can share them anywhere without a second look.
Under the generator, make a name your own with your family name, a place, a year or the members' initials, see whether it fits WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord or a Slack channel, and look up who can rename a group in each app.
That is Quick mode: instant and unlimited. For something more specific, switch to Custom mode, set a few options and add a sentence of details. An AI language model suggests 10 original names, each with the idea behind it, and More like this gives you variations on any name you like.

Tips for choosing a good name
Build on an inside joke
The best group chat names point to something only the group gets: a trip, a running bit or a famous mishap. Use a name from the list as a starting point and swap in your own detail.
Keep it short enough to spot
Telegram allows 128 characters and Discord 100, but a name of one to four words is easier to find in a busy chat list. The checker below shows where your name fits.
Match the people, not just the joke
A chaotic name is perfect for close friends but may confuse grandparents or a new coworker. Pick a vibe that everyone in the chat will enjoy.
Refresh it for the season
Rename the chat for a trip, the holidays, game season or exam week. Holibobs, British slang for holidays, topped a 2024 UK poll of group chat names.
